Pontine Islands ( Lazio region ) are the closest islands to Italy’s capital Rome. They form an archipelago in the Thyrrenian Sea and they give their name to their biggest island, Ponza.

The other islands are Palmarola, Gavi and Zannone in the north part, then in the south part we have Santo Stefano and Ventotene that are very famous and well known as diving spots also because since 1997 the area has become a procted natural zone with a marine park.

What to see by boat :
There are 41 km of shores and there are also very jagged rocks of tuff, with bays, coves and cliffs. Near the Port of Ponza there are The Caves of Pilate of the Roman era, following the Faraglioni della Madonna, the Lighthouse to the south of the island and the well-known famous beach of Chiaia di Luna. Continuing our navigation in the Cape famous for its characteristic white tunnel we find the beautiful beach of Lucia Rosa that offers amazing sunsets. Immediately after there is the bay of Cala Feola with natural pools and in the north of the island we find Cala Fonte in the part and the small island of Gavi. Among the most beautiful beaches these are not to be missed: the beach of Natural Arch, Cala Inferno famous for its heart drawn in the rock and the Gable Beach.

Ponza: The largest of the Pontine Islands is located 59 km south-west of Gaeta 33 south of Capo Circeo. This volcanic island is made up of a large central cone and two craters known as "Cala di Ponza” and “Hell Cala”. The jagged cliffs overlooking the sea to measure up 170 m. above sea level. Monte della Guardia, 283 m is the highest point of Ponza and is located at the south of the island.
The characteristic of Ponza town remembers for a greek semicircular amphitheater that overlooks the harbor, the residents are Pontini 2336 people, thanks to tourist numbers Ponza in the summer months is filled hundreds and hundreds of people who help to create a beautiful atmosphere festive like when going for a walk through the narrow streets of this italian jewel.

VENTOTENE And Santo STEFANO:  Ventotene is one of the smallest Pontine Islands archipelago, measuring 2,600 km in length and 700 meters in width. Distance from Formia is about 28 miles.

On the island of St. Stephen exists the former Bourbon prison in disuse since 1965, both islands are of volcanic origin and consist of yellow tuff, trachyte and basalt.
Ventotene is known as a tourist resort and a paradise for sailors retains a well preserved very charming natural state despite the presence of man dates back to the Roman era. The charm of history is palpable already by the arrival in the small Roman port where there are  caves, cleats dug into the tufa, the great Roman cisterns and the remains of Villa Giulia in Punta Eolo within the island makes it a magical atmosphere.

On the island of Ventotene there is an archaeological museum that can be visited and it’s very interesting for all those who want to combine holidays with pleasure!

PALMAROLA: Small island of just 1 km2 of the Pontine group, the westernmost of the archipelago and the most interesting from a geological point of view. Of volcanic origin, it has very indented coastline, especially in the west, culminating in Monte Guarniere (262 m). Palmarola is uninhabited but summer is filled with swimmers and can be reached by chartered boats 
ZANNONE: Atoll (0.9 km2), the northern most distant island of the archipelago, is about 6 miles from Ponza and culminates in Monte Pellegrino (184 m.s.m.). recently it was found through an archaeological site the presence of prehistoric Neolithic man.

GAVI: It's a rocky cliff deserted located a few hundred meters from Ponza.
